Mozilla needs your help selecting Firefox Recommended Extensions

Firefox Recommended Extensions are curated extensions that meet Mozilla’s highest standards of security, functionality, and user experience. Recommended extensions are easy to find on addons.mozilla.org (AMO) because of their distinctive “Recommended” trophy badge.

Recommended extensions are selected with input from the Community Advisory Board — a revolving group of contributors with a shared passion for add-ons. Board contributors can be anyone who demonstrates a unique perspective and appreciation for great extensions.

If you’re interested in contributing to the next board project, please drop us a note at amo-featured [at] mozilla [dot] org and provide a brief explanation why you feel you’d make a keen evaluator of Firefox extensions. We’d love to hear about how you use extensions and what you find so interesting about browser customization.

The Recommended Extensions Advisory Board

We routinely host ongoing, short-term curatorial board projects focused on evaluating new nominated content. Each project usually runs for six months. Board members are encouraged to test and evaluate a handful of new extension nominations each month.

Board members must be from the Firefox add-ons community: power users, developers, designers -- anyone who can demonstrate a passion for extensions and a keen understanding of their user value.

Board members must abstain from evaluating any content they may be personally or professionally affiliated with, or competing against.

Content evaluation process

The Mozilla Add-ons team routinely intakes Recommended Extension nominations from the community at large (would you like to nominate a candidate? Email us at amo-featured [at] mozilla [dot] org) and assembles a vetted list of promising candidates for the board to evaluate. Board contributors are simply asked to install and experience the extension candidates.

We're primarily focused on evaluating the extension's core functionality (does it do what it promises?), user experience (does it function intuitively? Elegantly?), or any characteristic that's particularly exceptional or unique.

Removing Recommended Extensions

The board may also participate in occasional pruning of the Recommended list. Reasons for content removal may include:

  • functionality/utility has been compromised or become obsolete
  • user experience has been degraded
  • security issues emerged
  • not actively maintained or developed anymore
